Yamaha Music Philippines, Inc. (YMPH) has officially launched its pilot music education program in ten public elementary schools across the municipalities of Guimbal, Leon and Santa Barbara in Iloilo, Region VI, Western Visayas — a key milestone under the Memorandum of Agreement signed with the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) in February 2026.

Pilot classes commenced in June 2026, with the program integrated into DepEd's MATATAG Curriculum under the MAKABANSA learning strand — a transdisciplinary subject bridging Araling Panlipunan and MAPEH. The approach uses Filipino folk songs as vehicles for cultural identity, rhythmic literacy, and social development, while reinforcing foundational numeracy through beat-counting and rhythmic notation exercises.

Prior to the launch, the Yamaha Corporation and YMPH School Project team conducted a structured, five-day teacher training from May 10–15, 2026, across all ten recipient schools. Two tracks ran simultaneously: the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) Training covering the PSS-A50 mini-keyboard, and the MAKABANSA Teacher Training equipping educators to integrate the P-32D Pianica into regular classroom instruction. The training curriculum was designed to develop not only musical competency but also movement, instrument care, and interpersonal skills through structured group activities — while simultaneously reinforcing foundational literacy and numeracy through rhythmic notation and beat-counting exercises. During mock teaching simulations, instructors exhibited strong command of lesson materials and confirmed readiness to deliver the program independently — including those with no prior formal music education background.

In support of the program, YMPH executed a Deed of Donation to DepEd Region VI covering instruments and complete instructional materials for all ten schools. All instruments were delivered on June 2, 2026, in alignment with the Brigada Eskwela school preparation period.

The program is structured as a multi-phase rollout, with formal class observations and follow-up teacher trainings. Through this initiative, Yamaha Music Philippines reaffirms its commitment as a long-term partner in the advancement of music education and the holistic development of Filipino learners.
